Book for sale on BookLocker

January 11th, 2010 → 7:42 pm @ admin // No Comments

Deist: So that’s what I am! is now available for sale on BookLocker. I will be sending print copies to all contributing authors, plus a few signed copies that have been requested. The book is a labor of love, and I am dying to get feedback from you, the readers.

For the first hundred or so who buy the paperback book, email me with your name, email address (of course), and the date and time you purchased it, and I will email you the ebook (.pdf), so don’t buy both the paperback and the ebook. This offer is valid until I forget about it or earlier, or later, whatever.

We will be available on Amazon, Barnes & Noble, etc. in 1-4 weeks. We do better if you order through BookLocker, but it is certainly your choice. The important part is that the book get out there so that more people can learn about Deism.

I also want to plug our Publication service, BookLocker. They have been great throughout the process. They are true professionals. Their services are by far the best, they don’t pressure you to buy services you don’t need, and their prices blow everyone else away.

If you know of any professional reviewers such as the religion editors of your local metropolitan newspaper, drop me a line. I’ll send them a brochure, and if they are seriously interested, I can get them an ebook or a book as they prefer.

We have a number of interested readers Down Under. If you email me your name and address, I can make arrangements to get you a copy more reasonably than BookLocker can do. I’ll send the book myself for about $11.00 postage, but I’ll split the cost with you. Email me for further details.

Do you have your own Website? We would love it if you could link to http://sothatswhatiam.com/. Deism is where it is today because of volunteers who think our belief system is important enough to invest the time and other resources to let people know about it. I think it is a very worthwhile investment, and if you find Freethought and reason to be an important part of your worldview, I hope you will take a look at Deism yourself. Thanks for readin!

To the printer next week

January 2nd, 2010 → 7:27 am @ admin // No Comments

Happy New Year to all. I am extra happy to report that the final formatting for the book contents are complete, the cover is done and uploaded to BookLocker, and it all should go to the printer early next week. They will print one copy and will return it to BookLocker. They will check it over and send to me for final approval, and the book will then be available for sale.

I have just sent a .pdf copy to all contributing authors. They have not yet seen the book in its entirety. Hope they approve of the final version! I have also invited them to come blog here. You certainly don’t want to listen to just me all the time. I am sure some will accept.

In short, you will be able to read a copy of Deist well before the end of the month, and you should be able to read blog posts by other contributing authors soon.

Publication update

December 28th, 2009 → 8:31 am @ admin // No Comments

We’ve completed our format update to meet the standards of our publishing service, and we sent it off to our copy editor for one final check. We will submit the final version this week. Only one task remains after that. The publishing service will send us the final proof, which will include a page count. That final count will determine the width of the book’s spine. Once that is settled, we can adjust and submit our book cover. The book should be available soon after!

Have you been to our Facebook page? So far 27 people have become members. That is very promising. You may also see an ad pop up for the book on Facebook.

Stay tuned. The time is fast approaching.

The journey

December 3rd, 2009 → 2:30 pm @ admin // No Comments

A journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step. That is also the way the journey ends. Nearly a year ago a number of us embarked upon an adventure. A dozen fellow Deists and I decided to share our feelings, beliefs and experiences in a book. Thus, the Contemporary Deism Project was formed. Now, the book is complete, and so is the journey. The book has entered the editing and publishing process. In a few short weeks it will take that final step from potential to actual, and the world will get to see it, warts and all.

To say that it has been challenging collecting the thoughts of over a dozen Deists and transforming them into a meaningful whole is the biggest understatement I’ve made all year. Deist: So that’s what I am! is far from perfect. It is ambitious, diverse and inclusive. Even the most extreme Deist theories and sub-categories get a hearing. There is something for everyone: something to cheer and something that probably will make you go, “huh.”

For everything that you cheer, I want to give credit to the wonderful contributors who worked so hard to explain what it is to be a Deist, and for everything that makes you scratch your head, I want it to be clear that it’s the editor’s fault.

Now a new journey begins. We enter a strange new land where we spend our energies letting people know that we have produced something of value, and we would like for them to benefit. Deists value reason, nature and experience. We hope you will experience this new book so that you can decide whether or not you can say, “so that’s what I am !”

Coming soon!

December 1st, 2009 → 12:50 pm @ admin // No Comments

The Contemporary Deism Project is proud to announce the upcoming release of Deist: So that’s what I am! The book represents the contributions of 13 Deist authors from some of the best-known contemporary sub-categories of Deism. We have a target publication date of January 2010.

Deist: So that’s what I am! will become the newest of the few modern works on the Deist belief system written by and for contemporary Deists and Freethinkers. It is a celebration of reason and nature representing the thoughts and experiences of a broad cross-section of the modern Deist community. How broad a cross-section? The authors come from Classical and Neo-classical Deism, Modern Deism, Panendeism, Spiritual-Deism, Christian Deism and even Pagan Deism. Never before have so many varieties of Deist belief been collected in one place.

We invite you to share in our eager anticipation. Coordinating, writing, collecting and editing the work of a dozen busy people took the better part of a year. Now comes the fun part: reading and sharing. The online Deist community has been graciously patient, and now the wait is over.

We will be posting updates here and on our book Website http://sothatswhatiam.com/ as soon as they become available. So spread the word, and check back often.
