In all, there are 13 authors who contributed in some way to the book project over its year-long creation. We would like to share their stories with you. I have posted them in no particular order.
John Lindell
John Lindell began his website, “The Human Jesus and Christian Deism” in 1998 and is founder of the Christian Deist Fellowship. John has a BA degree in religion, 1952, from Baylor University and a masters degree in social work, 1957, from the University of Texas. When he was a Baptist ministerial student, John began to question the doctrines of hell and the divinity of Jesus. He left the Baptist ministry and became a social worker. In 1968, he wrote, “A Guide to the Principles and Practice of Natural Religion” in which he described his personal religion which he later discovered is called “Deism.”
John Earwood
John Earwood is a former Christian and long-time Agnostic who was new to the concept of Contemporary Deism at the time he wrote the essay you will read in Deist. This paper was an attempt to put the little-known worldview known as Deism into a form that would make sense as a publicly-espoused alternative to both Theism and Atheism. His current involvement in “the Deist movement” however, is limited to forum posts, except for a few essays now and then.
Chuck Clendenen
Chuck was approached with the suggestion to revive David Pyle’s idea of a Modern Deist Project in late 2008. He modified the concept slightly, and the Contemporary Deism Project was born. As editor, Chuck has had the privilege of working with some of the most well-known and inspiring personalities in modern-day Deism. Chuck’s efforts are now directed towards promoting the book so that it will enjoy the widest possible dissemination in today’s marketplace of ideas.
Bob Johnson
Bob Johnson is founder of the World Union of Deists and author of his own contemporary Deism book, DEISM: A Revolution in Religion. A Revolution in You. Bob is very active and involved in the promotion of Deism on the Internet through the use of discussion forums, newsletters and his well-known Website.
Rev. Keith Wright
Reverend Wright has been involved in Deism for many years. The “Irreverent Rev” is one of the founding members and former President of the United Deist Church. He was a long-time contributor to Beliefnet before its recent makeover.
Dave Gaddis
Dave Gaddis is the founder of iDeism.com and also runs the Youtube Channel iDeismFounder. Dave, a career military officer, has a BS degree in Computer Science and an MA in National Security and Strategy. He has long studied religion and philosophy as a hobby and only relatively recently discovered he was a Deist. His focus is on moving Deism from its classical roots to a modern construct, rivaling the major revealed religions. Simply put, Dave seeks to unite Deists in a singular effort to move humanity from Bronze Age mysticism to Deism’s elegant, simple, and direct life philosophy.
John Casler
Along with his painting and writing, John Casler has been a student of religion and spirituality for more than 30 years. John has a Bachelors degree in Esotericism from the University of Chicago (Hermeticism from the Hellenists through the Renaissance), has served as a Presbyterian Elder, and eventually found his way to his current status of devout Deist. His Deist Poetry website explores the more artistic aspects of Deism and is intended to be a celebration of man’s interaction with God’s revealed word, Nature.
Robert Reno, Jr.
Robert Reno has been a Deist for more than 25 years since being first exposed to Deism in college while majoring in biology. That is where he met his wife and illustrator Teresa, an art major at the time. Robert and Teresa reside in Tulsa, Oklahoma where he is an emergency medical technician and she puts her psychology degree to use working with senior citizens. They have two daughters, Traci and Cassie, two cats, Oreo and Baby, and a snake named Monty Python.

Brad is the quintessential seeker. He is the product of a basically non-religious family in Australia. Although he was exposed to Christianity at a young age, religion did not hold much interest for him until later in life. Then it became very important for him to sort out his beliefs. He is sorting still.

Steve was a long-time contributor to the Modern Deism Movement and was both a founding member of the United Deist Church and a member of the Deist Alliance. He has since retired from active participation.
